5am is my friend.

Yes it is.  Do you know how I know?  Because we hung out together four days in a row this week.  And that’s kind of a big deal for me.  I’m the kinda lazy who likes to set my alarm for 7:00, snooze it all the way through to 8:00, and then speed-shower and panic-dress (that’s the great thing about having no style – nobody ever expects you to look good, so panic-dressing actually contributes to my look in a beneficial way).  9:01 is my standard work start-time. And flying by the seat of my pants has been the standard method of getting from morning to night on a daily basis for almost 30 years now.

But 5:00am arrived and I hit “off” and just got out of bed.  A slice of toast, black coffee, and then off to the pool.  Peculiar.  I’m sure it can’t last.  Although I have to add that yesterday, by 11:30am, I felt like I had lived three days already.  So I am struggling to endure one day at work getting up early, let alone one full day of endurance sport.  But baby steps.  And since riding for two hours really took it out of me yesterday morning, today I just had a really short swim, and short ride, and just enjoyed laying the foundation of an early morning training habit (although this morning’s training was negligible).

In the back of my mind though, I was thinking about saving energy for Running Club at lunchtime, and my swim stroke correction course lesson this evening.  Running Club started as a joke, but very quickly became quite competitive.  With a group of us running an 8km lap in our lunchbreak, our underlying competitive streaks, that we try to keep under wraps in the workplace, kick in and we race like greyhounds (most days) around the city and the Tan.  So this morning, when I had a pretty relaxed swim, I was obviously conserving energy for the lunchtime showdown.  Obviously.
